Meet Me

Kristen Hobson, NTP

Hi, I’m Kristen!

I’m not a nutritionist.

And I don’t want to be.

Why? Typical nutritionist programs focus on the old, disproven, ineffective, and potentially harmful dogma that came about in the early 20th century: eating fat makes you fat, eating low-calorie and low-fat is best, cholesterol is terrible for you, and the best diet to eat is vegetarian (or vegan).

Seeing as we’re no longer in the 20th century, I think it’s time for our nutritional experts’ education to catch up with the current era!

I’m much more than a nutritionist.

I am a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP).

What is an NTP? A Nutritional Therapy Practitioner takes a foundational holistic approach to nutrition by helping clients address nutritional weaknesses through a properly prepared, whole food diet, supplementation (if applicable), and lifestyle changes.

NTPs agree with Hippocrates that “All disease begins in the gut,”so we develop plans for each client based around that, as well as based on each clients’ bioindividuality (meaning each person is unique with highly individualized nutritional requirements).

Eating real food is important for optimal health. What you eat really does matter.

There is no one-size-fits-all diet. Therefore, based on a client’s bioindividuality, NTPs are more inclined to recommend healing diets such as the Gut and Psychology Syndrome diet (GAPs), Paleo/Primal, the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP), gluten-free, low-FODMAPS, and the Weston A. Price diet rather than the poorly-researched diet outlined by the USDA.

I’m your personal detective.

You’re a whole person, not a bunch of unrelated symptoms. I’ll aid you in determining the underlying root cause of why you’re fatigued, have low energy, and/or can’t seem to stop chugging caffeine and craving sweets.

When we approach your situation from that angle instead of simply treating your symptoms, you get better results that last.

Having someone to guide you through your individual needs makes all the difference in the world.

I had no one.

Here in Wilmington, I couldn’t find anyone who could guide me through my health journey in a gentle, holistic manner.

I wanted someone to review what I’ve done over the past few years, review what I’m doing currently, and give me a plan tailored to me.

I’ve been there:

  • Wide awake at bedtime and totally exhausted when it’s time to get up.
  • Relying heavily on caffeine and sugar to get me through the day, but still feeling like crap and gaining weight.
  • Not getting properly diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis until 3 years after my antibodies first showed up as extremely elevated.
  • Trying diet after diet to try to heal (from vegan/ vegetarian, to gluten-free, to Autoimmune Protocol (AIP), to Paleo, to Low-FODMAP, to low-histamine + candida, to… um…).
  • Being told my symptoms are “just stress and nothing more.”
  • Seeing multiple healthcare providers for less than 20 minutes at a time (some of them less than 5 minutes!). That’s not enough time to assess my situation or answer my questions!

It’s a bumpy road!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned on this journey, it’s that healing is not linear.

But I knew there’s a better way than suffering through each day with little sleep and huge sugar crashes.

When I discovered the Nutritional Therapy Practitioner program, I knew that was my answer.

Using what I learned, I adjusted my diet some more, quit caffeine and sugar, and made some lifestyle changes to take better care of myself.

I now have much more energy and I sleep so much better.

I became an NTP to help people like me who wanted a more natural, holistic approach to their health and well-being.

With my 28-Day Energy Recovery Program, I help busy, overwhelmed women regain their energy using a laid-back and holistic approach that results in lifelong positive healthy changes.

What working with me is like

I’m based in Wilmington, NC, but have worked remotely with clients all over the US. Here’s what a few of them have said:

“Kristen’s guidance really helped me overhaul my eating patterns over the course of a month [in the Energy Recovery Program]. I love that we started out small with little steps before progressing to larger changes in my daily habits. That really helped me stay on track and not get overwhelmed.” – A.M., Boulder, CO

“I loved that Kristen gave alternate recommendations and didn’t ask me to cut out all of my favorite things; there was a gradual ‘introduction.’ She definitely provides helpful guidance specific to your goals!” – C.V., Richmond, VA

“As a mom of 2 young children, I was struggling to keep up with them every day. Kristen’s baby-step approach in the Energy Recovery Program was exactly what I needed to knock out some unhealthy habits that were dragging my energy way down. Thanks to Kristen’s help, I feel more empowered and confident! – T.K., Cary, NC

“I have 3 times more energy than when I started [the Energy Recovery Program]. I liked our discussions where Kristen gave me direction but didn’t demand perfection. The rest was up to me. I didn’t feel pressured.” – J.W., Collierville, TN
